Email campaigns where your list never leaves your AWS account.

Your contacts are stored only in your account, and every email goes out through your own Amazon SES. We run the service, you keep the data.

Developer console, API and CLI. One-click setup in your account. Billed on your AWS invoice.

The Rhino Relay console showing a finished campaign, October newsletter, sent to a saved segment of newsletter readers in three stages of 10, 30 and 60 percent, with the start of its report.

The problem

You're paying per contact for features you don't use, and handing over your list to do it.

Hosted email platforms charge for every contact, every month, and keep a copy of your whole list on their servers. If you write your own HTML and just need to send it reliably to people who asked for it, you're paying for a drag-and-drop editor and automations you never open, and trusting someone else with your most valuable data.

How it works

  1. The console's setup health checks, all passing: the connection to your AWS account, the template version, SES production access and SES sending.

    Connect your account.

One template adds storage and a single access role to your AWS account. There's no code to install and nothing running between sends.

  2. Bring your list.

Import from Mailchimp or CSV straight into your own tables, with every unsubscribe and bounce carried over and a dry run you approve first.

  3. Send from the console, API or CLI.

Campaigns go out in stages, most engaged readers first, and pause themselves if anything looks wrong.

Your data, your account

Deliverability built in

The campaign report by stage: stage 1 sent to 63 with 46 opened, stage 2 to 190 with 94 opened, stage 3 to 380 with 175 opened, and no hard bounces or complaints.
Three of the console's health checks, all passing: DKIM signing, the custom MAIL FROM domain and the DMARC record.
  • staged sending, most engaged first
  • automatic pause on bounce or complaint spikes
  • one-click unsubscribe that meets Gmail's and Yahoo's rules
  • DKIM, SPF and DMARC checked before every send
  • optional sunsetting of contacts who stop engaging
  • bot opens and scanner clicks filtered out of your stats

Moving from Mailchimp

Switch in an afternoon.

Connect Mailchimp and see exactly what comes across before anything is written: who's subscribed, who stays suppressed, who gets cleaned out.

Mailchimp is a trademark of its owner, and we aren't affiliated with it.

The console's import page after a Mailchimp dry run: 1,480 rows read, 1,283 to import, 100 suppressed and 197 removed by cleaning, with buttons to commit or cancel the import.

Is it right for you?

A good fit: you write your own HTML, you have an opted-in list, you're comfortable with a developer console, an API or a CLI, and you want your data in your own AWS account.

Not a fit: you need a drag-and-drop editor, automated journeys, signup forms or A/B tests.

FAQ

Do I need to know AWS?
Enough to launch a CloudFormation template and add DNS records. The quick start covers both.
Do you store my contacts?
No. They're stored in your account. Our service reads them only to do what you ask, such as sending a campaign or showing them in the console, and doesn't keep them. No other client can reach them. The security page shows how that's enforced and how to check it.
What does AWS charge me?
Mostly SES at $0.10 per 1,000 emails. A 100k list sent monthly costs about $13 a month.
What if I cancel?
After a 30-day grace period you can't start new campaigns. Unsubscribe links, exports and deletion keep working, and your data stays in your account.
Is there a DPA?
Yes. The Standard Contract for AWS Marketplace includes a data processing addendum; see our terms.
Is there a user interface?
Yes, a developer console for your contacts, campaigns, templates, imports and exports, with usage graphs, rate limits, a request log and an API explorer. There's also a rhino-relay CLI on npm.
The console's API explorer showing a 200 OK response to listing contacts, with a contact's fields, tags and consent.
The console's API keys page, listing an active key with the admin scope.
The console's usage page: 633 subscribed contacts of 150,000 on the plan, and 633 emails sent this month.
